Dry Skin, Be Gone! (with these 3 pro-tips)

As the seasons change, our skin does too. I know you’re all feeling it. Particularly during this time of year, the change of seasons from fall to winter brings on an irritating and frustrating dryness that your year-round skincare routine just can’t kick. Hey! Your skin concerns are ours too! Here’s my expert guide on how you can dump dry skin before it gets tooo cozy and clingy this winter season.
You’ve heard this word many-a-times. But, promise, it’s wildly beneficial in order to slough off dead dry skin and regenerate new cell turnover. Our fave form of exfoliation this winter is Urb Apothecary’s Cactus Face Polish. *Wait, did you say cactus?* I know, sounds extreme. But in the special formulation Urb has crafted, the cactus is broken down to a fine powder, making it easily available to your skin and feels as soft as cookie dough. A shout out to the other various ingredients in this magical polish: a Camellia, Jojoba Seeds, Horsetail Powder, Rosehips, Lemon Peel and more.
Sidenote: Using organic, natural exfoliators are not only beneficial for your skin, but also the environment. Here’s why: Many mainstream physical exfoliators contain little plastic spheres with inconsistent and rough edges (in order to give you that feeling of a scrub). This is actually incredibly abrasive on our skin, creating micro-tears on the surface of the epidermis. Plus, when you wash off those little plastic beads, down the drain and into our oceans they go. Be conscious of what you are using not only for the sake of your skins health, but also for the sake of our environment.
Pro tip: While in the shower, cleanse your skin with Botnia’s Daily Face Wash. Follow that with our Cactus Face Polish, letting it set on your skin for a solid 5 minutes while you shampoo and condish. The enzymes in the scrub will become activated by the hot steam of the shower. Proceed to scrub away, rinse, and marvel at your skins radiance.
One of our fav lines: “your skin is your body’s largest organ!” And it works synergistically with all of your other internal body systems. This is why we believe in hydrating your body from both the outside in AND inside out! This time, we’re not suggesting chugging water constantly and running to the bathroom every 10 minutes. You can also EAT your water too! Not enough time in the day to get the recommended 3-5 servings of fruits and veggies per day? (That can be hard!) Hyalouronic acid is your next best friend when remedying any dryness or dehydration. For this reason, we are absolutely obsessed with Vital Proteins Collagen Beauty Greens – it’s a true #beautyfood supplement. It contains 12g of collagen in each serving AND 120 mg of hyalouronic acid. In addition to the collagen and hyalouronic acid, this smoothie-worthy powder also contains potent amounts of iron, probiotics, protein and important amino acids.
Side note: Are you *actually* drinking enough water? I know, it may sound so trivial, but I wouldn’t be a reliable esthetician if I didn’t emphasize this (for the millionth time) our skin loooooves water! Be sure to stay hydrated throughout the day by taking small sips of (preferably room temperature) water. Our body digests room temp water so much easier than cold ice water.
Pro tip: If you’re not sure if you’re drinking enough water, a simple equation you can do to calculate the right amount of water according to your bio individuality is to take your weight and divide that number in half and that’s how many ounces of water is most ideal for your body. Example- if I weigh 130 lbs, half of that is 65, therefore in accordance to my body, 65 ounces of water on a daily basis should be my goal.
As you may have read in our previous posts, receiving facial treatments are an important key factor in maintaining the health and integrity of your skin. A facial is a wonderful way to show your skin some much needed TLC and jumpstart your new regimen in harmonizing seasonal dryness.
Side note: Facials are a great opportunity to give yourself some self care. To unwind, relax, and reconnect with your needs. We are living in such a crazy fast paced world, we cannot stress enough the importance of relaxing and turning off that brain of yours if only for 30 minutes even.
Pro tip: An ideal frequency for receiving facials would be about every 4-6 weeks to address skin concerns. Once we achieve our skin care goals and you are on a consistent skin care regimen, facials are recommended about every 8 weeks
for maintenance and TLC.
